Gramin Shiksha Kendra

Gramin Shiksha Kendra is a community-led non-profit and registered society working to change the culture of education in Sawai Madhopur and Tonk district of Rajasthan, just outside Ranthambore National Park. We promote education that emphasises activity-based learning and partner with the community to drive the demand for quality education.

Our Vision:  Thoughtful, supportive and sensitive children will create a world which is equitable, supportive, which believes in peaceful coexistence, celebrates diversity and culture.
Our Mission: Education will set children free and help them to be curious, supportive, sensitive, thoughtful, aware, open to learning and have the abilities to take on responsibilities and fulfill them.
We accomplish our mission through our two flagship programmes: our Uday Community Schools, which educate over 400 children from 11 villages and our Vistaar program, where we partner with government schools to provide them support in academic training and community engagement.

Our programs are built on the idea that the community is a partner in the process of education, rather than schools being merely a service provider to them. We see schools as an extension of the community and community involvement lies at the heart of all of our interventions.

Our Work

UDAY COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

Our three Uday Community Schools serve as models for quality education in Sawai Madhopur and Tonk district. These schools let the communities experience our idea of quality education, empowering them to demand similar quality from the government.

VISTAAR

Vistaar (expansion) aims to extend the idea of quality education from Uday schools to the government schools, which works on a hub (Uday school) and spoke (government schools) model. Vistaar currently reaches out to 70 government schools in the district.
